German champions Bayern Munich on Wednesday outclassed a strong Borussia Dortmund outfit 3-2 to clinch the Super Cup trophy, their 5th title of this year.
Corentin Tolisso opened the scoring for Bayern in the 18th minute before Thomas Muller doubled their lead in the 32nd minute. But Dortmund fought back and cancelled out Bayern’s lead twice in the 39th and 55th minute thanks to goals from Julian Brandt and Erling Braut Haland respectively.
Kimmich then snatched the ball in midfield in the 82nd minute, played a one-two with Robert Lewandowski and had his shot blocked before the ball bounced back off his foot and into the net to win the game for Bayern.
For Bayern it was a morale-boosting recovery after losing 4-1 to Hoffenheim on Sunday to end a 32-game unbeaten run. It also marked the third win in a row against Dortmund.

“It was not that easy especially in the second half. We led 2-0 but then made our own life difficult,” said Bayern coach Hansi Flick, who took over in November and has enjoyed a sensational 10 months in charge.
“What counts is that we won the game. Everything else we will need to do better on Sunday (against Hertha),” he added.
Bayern has played for five trophies since coach Hansi Flick took charge in November and won them all, but all that success has made for more fixture congestion in the already packed 2020-21 season.
The win over Dortmund came just six days after another Super Cup, when Bayern beat Sevilla 2-1 in extra time in UEFA’s ceremonial season-opener. Bayern have also won the German league and Cup double, the Champions League and the European Super Cup this year.
